Cooking Demonstration

Our Members recently enjoyed a cooking demonstration with our newest addition to the dining team, Chef Jayson! He prepared a comforting chicken pot pie, with a tossed salad, and sliced baguette topped with balsamic vinaigrette. Our Members enjoyed this comforting meal on a chilly day for southeast Georgia, and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Chef Jayson! We have also taken great advantage of our projector and camera, allowing members in the back to get a close-up view of all the cooking action!

Car Show

We recently hosted our first annual ‘Cars for a Cause’ show fundraiser! We welcomed 27 vehicles to the show and raised a total of $1,663 for Alzheimer’s Association. We had live music provided by Saxophonist, Dexter Jones, and delicious BBQ plates prepared by our dining team. Our Judges were 2 Members, Bill Hannah, Car Enthusiast, Barbara Whitney, Avid Race Car Driver, One team member, Alatha Spade, Fearless Concierge, and 14-year employee, and Esteemed Chef Dave Carrier of Certified Burgers on St.Simons Island. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped us raise money for this cause that is so near and dear to our hearts at Marsh’s Edge.

USO Dance

Our outdoor USO style dance/dinner turned into a fun indoor dinner thanks to Hurricane Eta! It was a wonderful celebration we had to honor all of our Veterans. Colonel William Dow, and RAC Chair delivered inspirational words about the services of veterans past and present! All members stood and sang the National Anthem, and then our Marsh’s Edge Veterans were presented with an SLC Veterans Pin. Our Members then enjoyed a delicious meal of seafood toast, roasted chicken, roasted vegetables, and a twice-baked potato! Our chef then brought the heat as he made cherries jubilee table side! It was a wonderful evening honoring those who have given so much for our country. Thank you, Veterans!!

Trolley Tour

Our Members recently enjoyed a private Historical Tour of St. Simons Island from Colonial Trolleys! Our Members enjoyed learning about the island that we call home and it’s rich history – some of which won’t be found in history books! Everyone sanitized properly and wore their masks throughout the tour to ensure safety! It was a great opportunity to learn about our beautiful island!

Halloween

Halloween was a blast at Marsh’s Edge for our Members in Independent Living and Care Services! In Independent Living, our Members enjoyed their annual Halloween party! We normally have it in our bar, but to allow for more space, we moved into the Oglethorpe room and turned it into quite the spooky event. We had holograph zombies, a foggy graveyard, and ghostly pictures on the walls! Members were able to vote for their favorite costume of the night, and the best pumpkin! Wonder Woman and her dog, Super Man took home the prize for best costume and there was a two-way tie for the best pumpkin! While in Care Services, we hosted a Trunk or Treat! Families and staff were able to decorate their trunks and pass out goodies to Members in our Care Services neighborhood! Our Members had a great time picking up their goodies and being able to safely visit with family! Check out all of the incredible pictures from both celebrations below!

Fall Festival

We recently hosted a Fall Festival! It was the perfect day for our Members to come out and enjoy some music by JB Scotts Swinging All-Stars, delicious fall foods like stuffed pumpkins, sliced beef tenderloin, our award-winning chili, and pecan pie! Of course, we also had fresh apple cider which was perfect! Our attendees enjoyed fall festival games, punch a pumpkin, pumpkin chucking, jack-o-lantern drop, and pumpkin shooting! We also had a fun little petting zoo where everyone had the opportunity for a lot of animal smiles with 2 ducks, 2 chickens, 2 bunnies and 2 goats! It was such a fun and wonderful event. We’re proud to be able to host these events with precautions in place to keep our Members safe.

Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and to honor National Pink Out Day on October 23rd our Members and staff dressed in pink. Members enjoyed a “pink out” social hour with pink lemonade, pink cupcake, and pink cookies! Attendees could pick up bracelets, ribbons, pens, and information packets that our Social Director, Annsley put together – one for Men and one for Women. Additionally, to show our support for Breast Cancer Awareness, our maintenance team dyed our front fountain pink!
